2008 February Lafarge Cement Unveils Unique Web-Based Silo Monitoring System provided by DEDICATEDengines

Lafarge Cement has developed an innovative silo monitoring system to help its bulk cement customers keep track of their cement stocks over the internet. The unique management facility automatically monitors and replenishes cement supplies providing a solution to the industry-wide challenge of under- and over-stocking. The system is being rolled out to customers nationwide from this spring and presents a first for the industry. Developed in partnership with Dedicatedengines Limited over the last three years, a sensor checks the amount of cement stored in single or multiple silos and transmits this information to a secure server at pre-determined intervals. Cement levels are kept under constant review, and when cement falls to a pre-set level, an alert is automatically sent to Lafarge, which in turns arranges immediate delivery of stocks. Mike Lomax, marketing communications manager, Lafarge Cement UK, comments: "This ingenious and proven piece of technology is going to prove a real time-saver to our bulk cement customers. We developed it in response to comments about the complications of having to individually monitor and reorder bulk cement particularly where it is often so difficult for our customers to actually see how much cement is stored in their silo. The automatic monitoring not only means no more last-minute phone calls, it removes the work of planning future deliveries and ensures cement stocks are properly managed and significantly reduces the risk of being caught short!" This innovation is another in a line of systems being developed by Lafarge Cement as part of its sustainability drive. By optimising cement stock levels Lafarge Cement is minimising risk of wastage and ensuring efficient delivery schedules although where possible, deliveries are made off-peak to minimise costs and road congestion. Mike continues: "The web interface also means that our customers can view their stock levels from any location increasing flexibility, particularly if they have several silos or are working across numerous sites. We're confident that the removal of hassle, worry, cost and risk is going to make this system a popular choice, and we're pleased to be the first to introduce it."

2007 December Paper Mill production in France
DEDICATEDengines has been awarded a contract to incorporate production data into forward predictive stock requirement for a paper mill near Paris. Continually changing production run schedules are routed automatically to the DEDICATEDengines eMIS server where the usage of raw bulk material is calculated depending on the paper grade being manufactured. This data is fed into the eMIS predictive software module to automatically plan deliveries over the coming weeks. With delivery journeys of 2 days, this forward planning allows more effective stock control and makes savings in transport costs - which translates directly into carbon savings.

2007 Sept Energy management
DEDICATEDengines has successfully completed trials of remote energy management for small to medium sized premises. These trials monitored the running of boilers and air conditioning (HVAC) in commercial properties and successfully identified in-efficient plant which resulted in substantial energy savings.

2006 June DEDICATEDengines wins government development grant
DEDICATEDengines is awarded a government grant for innovation to develop silo measuring and data processing for animal feeds. This work will see low cost sensors developed to work in a farm environment. The resulting measurements will be remotely collected in real time for processing into usage and feed planning information.

2006 March Automatic utility meter readings
DEDICATEDengines has successfully completed trials of automatic utility meter reading (AMR) for educational and MOD properties. This metering data provides 30min usage information which is used to profile the energy and water consumption at various remote locations.

2005 November Forward Planning and Predicted Usage module
DEDICATEDengines recently launched its new Forward Planning and Predicted Usage database module. This powerful software module provides bolt on 'back office' functionality to its existing VMI platform giving logistical and production planners a heads up on anticipated future demands plus the option to seamlessly integrate into existing business systems. Using proprietary algorithms the system is able to learn from patterns of usage and from the deliveries of product to provide predictions for future demands thus smoothing out the peaks and the troughs. The whole system does this automatically using the data it receives from site or from manual data input to suit the application.

2005 April DEDICATEDengines goes saturator crazy
DEDICATEDengines has gone live with a remote monitoring system on a Salt Saturator tank in East Anglia for a major food manufacturer. Following successful trials, this system allows the supplier to take charge of what was a labour intensive operation for the site in terms of identifying when the tank required recharging. The remote monitoring system gives the supplier 48 hours notice that a recharge is required allowing them to plan production efficiently and optimise deliveries to site saving them money and improving the service to their customer.

2004 June Russian Silos Remotely Monitored.
The newly commissioned Russian manufacturing site of a well known global male grooming products corporation is benefiting from the remote visibility of its bulk plastics feed silos being provided to its raw materials through the automatic internet based system provided by DEDICATEDengines. The system provides the raw materials suppliers with the vital 'real time' silo level information at the customers site which they will need in order to ensure effective continuity of supply. The system supplied by DEDICATEDengines through one of its OEM materials handling partners is a customised labelled variant of its standard eVMI lite package. Through co-ordination between DEDICATEDengines, its OEM materials handling partner, the primary contractor on site and the corporate customer the on-site hardware was installed in a matter of hours and the system came to life in June 2004 without a hitch. The raw materials suppliers simply log into the password protected web site using a standard web browser like Microsoft Explorer and see the up to date silo stock levels at the client's site. Automatic warning and alarms can be set up to signify when the stock has reached re-order points and safety stock levels.

2004 January Plastics Company Signs Three Year Deal for Second Generation Inventory/Schedule System.
A UK plastics company has signed a three year deal with DEDICATEDengines for a customised remote bulk stock, demand/supply visibility and projected stock balance system for its raw materials suppliers. The second generation system went live on January 1st 2004 and is automatically providing the company's raw materials suppliers not only with up to date bulk inventory levels (bagged and silo stock), but also future demand, as well as the capability to schedule in future deliveries - thus providing a common platform on which to reconcile projected stock balance with existing stock balance. This allows both the plastics company and its suppliers to verify that not only immediate stock requirements but also future demand are covered. The system was customised from eMIS, the internet based Management Information System technology platform wholly developed and maintained by DEDICATEDengines (patents in progress) which is providing real-time remote visibility of vital inventory and scheduling information and plant/process operational data for bulk supply chain and remote asset management applications in a wide range of raw materials and primary processing/manufacturing industries and utilities.

2003 August Bolt on load cells provide cheap alternative to load cells
DEDICATEDengines has successfully installed a system for monitoring the level of feed in animal silos. This traditionally 'out of bounds' arena on the grounds of cost has been conquered by the use of bolt on retrofit strain gauges. These low cost alternatives to load cells allow retrofitting without disrupting silo/tank usage.

2003 July DEDICATEDengines upgrades to ISO9001-2000
As part of the company drive to continuously improve the quality of its products and services, DEDICATEDengines has successfully upgunned its quality processes to the ISO9001-2000 standard. Achievement of this internationally recognised benchmark standard is another example of the company drive to strive for and attain the highest standards of performance in order to maximise the benefits to existing and new customers.

2003 May Plastics Moulder Goes Live with OEM Inventory Visibility System.
A UK plastics moulder has gone live in May '03 with a remote silo monitoring system supplied by DEDICATEDengines through one of its materials handling OEM partners. The system is being used to provide 'real-time' bulk stock levels for the plastics moulding company's raw materials suppliers in Europe, so they can effectively plan manufacturing and deliveries. The remote stock visibility package customised and labelled for the OEM is derived from the successful standard DEDICATEDengines internet based package eVMI lite, which features automatic continual monitoring of silos stock levels and e-mail alarms, with password protected access. The system is also designed to be expandable at a later date, eg. the addition of automated data feeds into suppliers manufacturing and supply chain systems.
